Function evaluation disabled because a previous function evaluation timed out.

Hello everyone, I have an C# application in which I am getting this error :

"Function evaluation disabled because a previous function evaluation timed out. You must continue execution to reenable function evaluation."

I saw many posts related to this error on stackoverflow and on msdn also but found no solution. Most of the people say that this error comes in multithreaded application and can be resolved by deleting all the breakpoints. In my case, my app is single threaded and I have deleted all the breakpoints also but still I am getting this error when I debug the app. When I run the app. without debugging, my application just hangs and I have to stop it throught visual studio. I tried to find the code where its getting hang and I found the line where it gets hang. Here is the code snippet :

MatchCollection matchesFound = Regex.Matches(content,
                                             keywordPattern,
                                             RegexOptions.Multiline);
int matchCount = matchesFound.Count;

When execution comes at second line, i.e. when code tries to get the value of Count property my application gets hang. My regular expression is fine as I have tested it in Expresso and I am sure that application is not getting hanged while executing Matches() method. If I come to that line by debugging, I get the above mentioned error. Does anyone knows why this error comes and how to resolve it?

I am using Visual studio 2005.

Thanks and Regards,

The reasons of the hang and of this error message are probably the same: there is something that takes a lot of time to compute. Both when you do it in code and in debugger. Debugger has no magic power to calculate something faster than your app.

You can try to use Debug.WriteLine to output actual content and keywordPattern. I think it easily might be that both are big enough to take ages to proceed.

To "this" or not to "this" in C#? Possible Duplicates: When do you use the “this” keyword? Best practices for using the ‘this’ keyword in C# I have a style question regarding the this keyword. Do you use this when self-referencing auto-implemented properties or methods within a class for the sake of clarity? For one example, in your Constructor, do you write your parameter assignments as: public class Foo { public string FooProperty { get; set; } public Foo(string fooProperty) { this.FooProperty = fooProperty; } ... } OR as: public class Foo { public string FooProperty { get; set; } public Foo(string fooProperty) { FooProperty = fooProperty; } ... } IMHO, the this is a very useful keyword. Once I see the "this", I know it is a class variable. Otherwise, I would have to check whether its
Rebinding C-c to C-c
Rebinding C-c to C-c Hi! I'm using Viper, and I want to change its C-c and C-g to the original emacs functions. I can rebind C-g with (define-key viper-vi-global-user-map "C-g" 'keyboard-quit), but how can I rebind C-c, since it's a prefix key? Thanks! The original binding for C-c can be set with the following: (define-key viper-vi-global-user-map (kbd "C-c") 'mode-specific-command-prefix) The info page for this is Prefix Keys. It may make sense for you to run M-x viper-set-expert-level with an argument of 2 ("Master"). As the viper-mode documentation explains: 2 -- MASTER: C-c now has its standard Emacs meaning in Vi command state, so most Emacs commands can be used when Viper is in Vi state. As you master viper-mode, you're meant to increase your expert-level setting gradually over time, making more Emacs features available to you (or, as the Viper documentation
C# and C++ in relation to C
C# and C++ in relation to C I've never programmed using C or whatever but I use this site a lot so as you can imagine I run into them quite a lot. And due to the fact I don't really understand the languages this is a question Google can't really answer. So in simple terms what are the differences between each of these languages. I assume they are related. All I know is that C++ is what brought object orientated programming to C. C is the grandaddy. When you compile your C application, you get executable byte-code machine code that is ready to run on whatever platform you compiled for. C++ added Object Oriented development to C C# is a distant cousin related only by somewhat similar syntax (and the letter C in the language name). C# compiles down into .NET IL that gets compiled Just In Time by the .NET runtime (just like the rest of the .NET family of languages). Their names look
Converting C (not C++) to C#
Converting C (not C++) to C# I have some old C 32 Bit DLLs that are using Oracle's Pro C precompiler library (proc.exe) to expose a hundred or so sproc/func calls to an even older VB6 GUI which references these functions through explicit Declare statements like so: Declare Function ConnectToDB Lib "C:\windows\system32\EXTRACT32.DLL" (CXN As CXNdets, ERR As ERRdets) As Long All the structures in the C header files are painstakingly replicated in the VB6 front end. At least the SQL is precompiled. My question is, is it worth trying to impose a .Net interface (by conversion to an assembly) onto the the C code and upgrade the VB6 to C# or do you think I should just abandon the whole thing and start from scratch. As always, time is of the essence hence my appeal for prior experience. I know that if I keep the Declares in .Net I will have to add lots of complicated marshalling decorations
Objective-C and C interoperability
Objective-C and C interoperability We're going to have to write a C library and this library has to be accessible from Objective-C. Now I don't know anything about Objective-C so I wonder how simple Objective-C <-> C interoperability is. Is that as simple as including the C header in the Objective-C code and linking to the library? Is there anything special I'm supposed to do (like the extern "C" bit with C++)? Objective-C is a strict superset of C. You don't need to use extern "C" or anything like that. Objective-C is a strict superset of GNU C (note, this is not the same as ISO C90
Learn C# to transition to C/C++?
Learn C# to transition to C/C++? Alright, so I just took an introductory class into Computer Science and the school's language choice was Java (I have basic knowledge of concepts like polymorphism, encapsulation, etc..). I want to learn C++ then C (I hear that one should learn C++ first then go to C), and was wondering if C# is a nice transitional language because of the language similarities between Java and C#. So will learning C# first help me get a better understanding of C++ later? I appreciate any help. Thank you. If you already know Java, C# won't teach you much more about C++ than you already know. Doubtful. C# is not significantly more C++-like than Java. It does support pointers in unsafe code, but beyond that I can't think of any reason it would make an especially good bridge from Java to C++. Also that is a feature I suspect more likely to be used by developers coming

matlab in C C++ and C C++ in matlab It seems that are several ways to call matlab in C C++ and to call C C++ in matlab. While I try to list them here, please point it out If I miss something. To call C C++ in matlab, there are also two methods. The first one is to call functions in C shared libraries. The second one is to build C C++ code into binary MEX-files, which will be called from the MATLAB command line. For the first method, are the C shared libraries are just general ones, i.e. without change to their C code for matlab and compiled from general C compiler like gcc? To call matlab code in C C++, there are two methods available. The first one is Matlab engine. The second one is to use MATLAB Compiler mcc to create C or C++ shared libraries from your MATLAB code. Besides matlab and C C++ can communicate via writing and reading data to and from some file (e.g. mat file, text
Objective-c superset of C
Objective-c superset of C How is objective-c possibly a superset of C? It makes no sense. There is no stack in objective-c from what I can tell. Also, in C there is no need to use [] whenever invoking a method. Please explain. There is a stack in Objective-C, just objects aren't (for the most part) found on it. C types are, though, so in that sense C + (objects on the heap) is a superset of C. Similarly, there are no methods in C, so [object message] has no meaning in C. Adding it, as Objective-C does, still means that C exists in its entirety so C + (object messaging syntax) is a superset of C. Compare that with the notion that C++ doesn't allow implicit pointer conversion from void *, so C - (implicit pointer conversion) is less than C, so C++ cannot possibly be a superset. Hi Greg, Objective-C does use the same call stack as C. And the brackets are part of the "superset" which

I see no reason why this would be different in C++ No. For functions, I've seen "declare" being used for just writing the header, whereas "define" was used for writing the body. However, it's all natural language. "declare" as in you C example seems correct for both C and C
Is C# a superset of C?
Is C# a superset of C? Is C# a superset of C in anyway, like Objective-C or C++? Is there a way to compile C online with constructs such compiler flags? In a word, No. Not in any meaningful way. It's inspired by C (among others), but they are quite fundamentally different languages. C# comes from the "c-like" family as far as syntax is concerned, but as far as architecture it feels more like Java (no pointers [OK, as pointed out below, you can use them, but most people don't know or care about that], arrays are bound checked, garbage collected memory, etc). You can get much of that in C++, but not in the core. Let's put it like this: C and C# are similar like rm -rf . / and # rm -rf . / are similar In short, no C is not a subset of C#. The look of many control structures base on C. Like, for-loops, switches, while and so on. At the same time, C# forbids potentially dangerous
Using VS2008 with C/C++
Using VS2008 with C/C++ I've decided to dive into some code written in C and I'd like to use VS I have VS08 Pro which I'm using now primarily for C#, but I've noticed that there are no options for C in VS. Also I've noticed that although VS has projects, and whatnot for C++ that the build options are all greyed out so I cannot build C++. What do I need to build C++? Can I add projects and building for C in VS? When you install Visual Studio, it offers the different languages as options - perhaps you chose not to install C++? If that's the case, you'll need to run the installer again. Once you have Visual C++ installed, I believe it can compile C as well. You'll just have a C++ project that doesn't use C++ features. ;D Visual Studio doesn't distinguish much between C++ and C. Instead, you create a C++ project, and then simply add .c files to it. It will by default compile .c files

Was C# compiler written in C++?
Was C# compiler written in C++? Was C# compiler written in C++? Yes, but there are plans to write a C# compiler in C#, which I believe was discussed in this podcast. HTH, Kent Yes. The Mono C# compiler is written in C#. Yes it was - as majority of CLR. If you want to see the internals of CLR and/or compilers I would strongly recommend Shared Source CLI from Microsoft (aka Rotor): Microsoft Download Wikipedia Shared Source Internals book But, there is actually a compiler written in C#. I believe that Mono is written that way. Download Mono sources and find out for yourself
C And C++ Coding Standards
C And C++ Coding Standards What are best practices with regards to C and C++ coding standards? Should developers be allowed to willy-nilly mix them together. Are there any complications when linking C and C++ object files. Should things like socket libraries that traditionally is written in C remain in C and kept in seperate source files? That is keeping c code in .c files and c++ code in .cpp files. When mixing c and C++ after being parsed with g++ will there be any performance penalties, since typesafe checks are not done in C? but are in C++. Would would be the best way to link C and C++ source code files. The biggest issue is calling a C function from C++ code or vice versa. In that case, you want to make sure you mark the function as having "C" linkage using extern "C". You can do this in the header file directly using: #if defined( __cplusplus ) extern "C" { #endif extern

Flui°D°emo - A 2D Fluid Simulation
Download Flui°D°emo (incl. source code) at rene-schulte.info Higher quality video vimeo.com Flui°D°emo is an interactive 2D physically based fluid simulation, which I made in winter 2007/08. It implements the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) approach as described in the paper "Particle-Based Fluid Simulation for Interactive Applications" by M. Müller et al., which utilize the Navier-Stokes equation and SPH to simulate the behaviour of the fluid. The resulting differential equation is solved with a basic verlet integration. This all is implemented in a flexible and small 2D particle system engine, including emitters, consumers and a renderer for Meta-Balls (Blobs). The Meta-Balls are drawn with a Render-To-Texture technique using OpenGLs framebuffer extension (FBO), a procedural generated gaussian distribution texture and alpha-testing. The collision handling is done with the Separating-Axis-Theorem (SAT) and Oriented Bounding Boxes (OBBs). The whole project is written in C# 3.0 against the .Net Runtime 2.0 and released under the GPLv3 license. The visualization is done with OpenGL, using the OpenTK library (www.opentk.com).

Blender + Blitz 3D Game (FPS)
Date of the video: 20-04-2009 This is the video of an end of degree project or Final Project (Informatic studies).I had 1 month to make it (Spent over 5-6 hours every day). I started using blender when i was 15 years old (Now I'm 22). The VideoGames has been my pasion since then. I always wanted to do my own 3D game, so i decided to study Informatics & Programming. I've combined my skills (Coding & Graphics) to create Rivals. My dream just became truth with this project, it wasn't easy, it wasn't fast, but i did it! a 3D game made completely by me! Tools used: google + wikipedia Blitz3D as Game Engine (It's a little bit old, but you can do nice games with it) Blender Gimp Photoshop The graphical quality is a little bit low, i could do much better with more time (better models, textures, animations etc..) but the main purpose of the project was programming, so i couln't spent much time on the graphics. I didn't know anything about how to use blitz3D when I started the project, so one of the difficulties was learning how to code in Blitz3D since the begining in a short period of time. I'm used to C,C#,Java etc... so learning a new language was not a big deal in fact. The hardest thing in the project was the Multiplayer part, i spent hours and hours till ii was worcking properly. My next Step is create a game in the Vavle game engine, Source. You can see a video of a sniper rifle made by me exported to Source format in my profile. I hope you enjoy the video as much as i do ...

Learning how to use LabVIEW for making cool applications
This is a video we made to help introduce people to some of the concepts in LabVIEW. LabVIEW is a programming language that was created in 1986 and has become very popular among engineers and scientists because it is almost entirely graphical. Graphical programming languages like LabVIEW are really great for people that don't like or don't understand text based languages like C++ or C#. You can do all of the things that a text based language can do but you don't have to worry about things like thread management or memory allocation. You can even create fairly powerful applications for multicore processors that truly take advantage of the different cores. This video just introduces the basics of LabVIEW but if you want, you can actually go check out the Evaluation version at www.ni.com

Tetris AI - Genetic Programming Vs Tetris Game
This video shows the power of a genetic algorithm applied to a simple game like tetris. This AI is able to last for more than 2kk+ pieces, i don't really know its limit because i had to stop testing due to leak of time. I programmed a simple GUI for the AI that shows the usual tetris interface, it's made in C# and it's no longer than 200 lines of code :) This AI has a 5-values genoma that makes it flexible and adaptive without effort. The AI was created during just one night of evolution, actually 8 hours of elaboration on ~500 generations of AIs. If you have any doubts, critics or advices, email me to progv@libero.it . Thanks [song from Dj Dom Bro L'Eclipse Night-Club Gold Compilation track 10]

Thanks for the wait. I promised this last week but I only got it up to speed this week. I've made 3 videos.... the first 2 based on the game itself, and the last based on the level editor which is part of the game as well. The level editor is only 2 days old.. give it a while to be up to speed! It's been about a month since my last video, and since then I've started learning C# and XNA. I love it. C# is such a sexy smooth language. I recommend anyone and everyone to have a go at it, as well as XNA - makes games wonderful to write! Don't forget to get an XBOX controller to hook up to your PC! This is a platformer project similar to cosmiKPlatformer1 for C++ but with many new changes and developments! I've tried to show and talk about everything in these 3 videos... but It can't do justice to all the intricate workings and effort that i've put in to this! I must say, I'm really proud of what I've accomplished in such a short time. I hope this inspire any programmer or gamemaker to go forth and create what they want and love! I do this mostly because I love seeing my ideas come so quickly in to virtual fruition, and the best way for me to do that is by making it in to a game! Please comment, and subscribe and I will have more updates soon. I would really like to work with ...

INTOI - Interchange of Ideas - Digital Flipchart
Contributing in the "Office of Tomorrow" project at the University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg, 5 students (Michael Hurnaus, Verena Lugmayr, Juergen Oberngruber, Claudia Oster and Christian Schafleitner) are developing the digital whiteboard solution of tomorrow. Using several cutting edge technologies, we want to open new ways of brainstorming, presenting content and transfering knowledge. The interactive multiuser installation Intoi is being developed in C#, uses back projection, hand tracking, the Anoto technology and presents a new way of user interaction. The users can draw and write on a digital projected surface with Anoto pens, load and create images, Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe PDF files. Participants in a meeting can send their own files onto the projection surface, respectively to the Intoi application, by using a thin Intoi client application. The user-interface-design presents a new way of user interaction. Instead of classic drop down menus we build circular shaped recognition areas for switching tools or changing settings. It is possible to simply use the hand to navigate through the page, without invoking any scrollbars. Some old QBasic programs
Most of these programs were written when i was just a little kvee :), they are simple, yet they were important for me, as this is how i learned what i know today. Nowadays i don't use qbasic anymore, i do most of my work / testing in C#. But let's talk about the programs now. 01: first one is some kind of screensaver-ish program, it just moves an pointer in random fashion, increasing the color value of the pixel with every cycle. Using only qbasic's functions, i didn't know there were things like direct VRAM access... 02: my attempt at encryption :)), it just uses some basic logic functions, but i had no idea back then. I was even converting the number to binary by dividing, so the demonstration in the video would take about forever to encrypt. Later i realized i better leave creating those algorithms for the cryptologists and moved on :) 03: a very simple, almost text-mode 2d game engine. I really liked (and still like) the playstation game series "Syphon Filter"... so i decided to make a PC version :)... What an idea... Well, it ended up like this, I could not believe I got the map editor working back then and that the whole thing actually worked :) 04: another graphic program... I was at the lake and thought the sun reflecting in the water was really nice to look at... When i got back home, I wrote a quick piece of code to simulate that effect and it looked better than I expected... 05: one day, I thought i'd make a fun of somebody by making him believe I am actually ...
