WebsiteSpark & Visual Studio 2010

Having a look around at WebsiteSpark from Microsoft - the deal is good (especially if you were looking to go down this path already). But I'm one of those people that likes to 'wait for the next version' if I'm in no rush to sign up. One question that's been bugging me is whether or not the program includes upgrades to Visual Studio and/or they will change the starting pack at some point?

Currently, If you sign up now, you get 3 copies of Visual Studio 2008.

If you're umming and ahhing about the scheme, is it worth waiting and hoping that they adapt their program so that it comes with VS2010? Or maybe that they'll offer free updates to those already in the scheme?

(This question may be a little subjective I guess and it probably applies to the BizSpark side of things as well. Have there been any hints set in other Microsoft programs that might indicate the outcome? ).

See Scott's answer here: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2009/09/24/announcing-the-websitespark-program.aspx

This is great. Will is cover software upgrades i.e. VS 2010 when available?

Yes - while you are in the program you can always download the latest version of any of the software. So once VS 2010 is released you can download that as well.

Hope this helps,

Scott

Scott gu confirmed on his blog that the liceses will cover 2010 when it's released.

whoooooopS!

Visual Studio 2010 Express
Visual Studio 2010 Express Is it possible to open / edit a normal Visual Studio Solution with Visual Studio Express Edition ? It depends. If this normal solution includes a unit testing project for example or a load tests or a modeling project (architecture, UML), then the answer is no. Class libraries, console applications, WinForm, ASP.NET, ... should be ok. Yes this is possible with restrictions (not all project types are supported). You must edit the second line of sln-File. For example change "# Visual Studio 2010" to "# Visual C# Express 2010" This works for example for class libs or Windows Forms applications

Visual Studio 2010 Download?
Visual Studio 2010 Download? Hi Guys, Generally wondering if there are multiple versions of Visual Studio 2010 to download i.e. I can only find x86 and unsure if this is the version I want for Win7 x64 [which I am running] Are there multiple versions available or is the only release version x86 which just install x64 components? As far as I know there is no 64 bit version of Visual Studio 2010. See http://news.softpedia.com/news/Don-039-t-Hold-Your-Breath-for-64-bit-Visual-Studio-113943.shtml. According to the article "customers are better off running the development platform in 32-bit emulation mode on top of 64-bit Windows. And while saying nothing about 64-bit support beyond Visual Studio 2010, the lesson for developers is don't hold your breath for x64 VS." Not that answer you wanted. There won't be x64 version of VS2010. For some explanations take a look at Rico Mariani's

Add-in for Visual Studio 2010 I am just about to get used with Visual Studio 2010 right now. So could you mention visual studio add-in that is ready for Visual Studio 2010? AnkhSVN - a subversion client is VS 2010 compatible. Hope that helps, Dan AnkhSVN AtomineerUtils - includes several general coding tools for C/C++/C#, but primarily provides an excellent automatic DocXml/Doxygen comment generation tool. JetBrains has preview builds of ReSharper available. It may not be completely stable yet, but some ReSharper is better than no ReSharper... Take a look within Visual Studio itself: Tools -> Extension Manager. This will show various tools and other extensions from http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/. I'm not sure if it's working very well right now, as I'm having connection issues within VS and the site seems a bit slow. I know AnkhSVN exists on there and I'm
alternative to visual studio 2010
alternative to visual studio 2010 Is there any alternative to visual studio 2010 for develop with .net 4.0? thanks You can use SharpDevelop to develop .NET projects, though the support for 4.0 is still in beta status AFAIK. Notepad and .net 4.0 compiler :-) Considering that .NET 4.0 only just came out (at the same time as VS 2010) I would hazard a guess at "No". :) In general, Visual Studio is by far the best IDE I've ever used. Nothing else even comes close. MonoDevelop is really catching up. It is not a 100% replacement of VS, because it is based on Mono. The IDE is starting to be really good (GUI designer, debugger, test framework, web and IPhone stuff etc. etc.). Supports .NET 3.5 for now

Nothing is happening when I execute my code... Someone have a idea ? Thanks in advance. Best regards Have you attached the services process to the Debugger? Debug Menu > Attach to process Kindness, Dan I haven't tried that. I try now and it works but i'm not at the right piece of code that I want to debug... Normally Debugger.Break create an exception and show you a windows with the available debuggers. It's not the case here... Another idea ? Thanks in advance

Visual Studio 2010 Formatting
Visual Studio 2010 Formatting I have plenty of experience with Eclipse, and now I'm trying out Visual Studio 2010. I find its formatting somewhat counter-intuitive. Here are some things I'm trying to figure out: Is there a way to select all text and format/indent it properly, like SHIFT+A SHIFT+I in Eclipse? Why is it that when I type a line like if (n == 0) {, as soon as I type the opening brace, the text cursor is moved to the beginning of the line? Is this some productivity speedup I'm failing to see? When I hit ENTER after the aforementioned line, I'd like the closing brace to be put in place automatically for me. How can I do this? I've looked for hotkey documentation, and it's helped a bit, but this still feels clunky to me. To format a document in visual studio the key combination is: ctrl-k ctrl-d The formatting commands are by default bound to Ctrl+K Ctrl+??. Ctrl+K
Visual Studio 2010 and Sharepoint 2007
Visual Studio 2010 and Sharepoint 2007 I have Sharepoint 2007, and I am going to buy Visual Studio for the first time. Does Visual Studio 2010 work with Sharepoint 2007? Yes of course it does. But be aware of the different versions of Visual Studio. VS 2010 you can build workflows, list definitions, site definitions, web parts, etc. etc. You can't buy Visual Studio 2010 yet. It's not due to be released until this spring. Unfortunately no. Visual studio 2010 has integrated lots of features which can be integrated and deployed to SharePoint 2010 only. Because of lot of variations like system versions [32/64 bit and architecture] it won't support 2007 system. But, you can open your custom projects or solutions in Visual Studio 2010 and manually deploy them to SharePoint 2007 as you are doing using Visual studio 2005 or 2008. You can't automatic configure or deploy to Sharepoint 2007

Is ClearCase supported in Visual Studio 2010
Is ClearCase supported in Visual Studio 2010 I'm looking for information about support for using ClearCase in Visual Studio 2010, I'm writing up an evaluation of VS 2010 and need some info on SCS other than TFS and SVN and was wondering if there is a plugin being developed for ClearCase and VS 2010? I have always seen Rational IBM integration support after the release of the product (eclipse, Visual Studio, ...) And VS2010 won't be release before the 22nd of March 2010 A plugin should then be proposed by Rational (for the CC client and the CCRC remote client) The "Marketing Communications Manager for Developer and User Experience Runtimes and Tools at Microsoft" Rob CARON just said (January 13th) Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 will launch on Monday, 12 April 2010. IBM Rational has announced that ClearCase support for Visual Studio 2010 is slated for Q2 2010
ProFont not showing in Visual Studio 2010
ProFont not showing in Visual Studio 2010 My favorite coding font, ProFont, does not show up in the list of fonts in Visual Studio 2010. Shows up fine in VS 2008 on the same box. Any ideas? I'm using Windows 7 with Visual Studio 2010 Premium. Are you using the .FON (ancient bitmap-font format) version of ProFont? I know WPF does its own font rendering; it may be that FON fonts are no longer supported. Grab the TTF version and I believe it should work
